'Buffy the Vampire Slayer': Warner Bros. sinks fangs into reboot | EW.com

This makes me want to cry. Unless Joss Whedon is involved in it, I hope it never makes it anywhere without his involvement.  His Buffy is my Buffy.

Can we make Hollywood sign a contract where projects are not options for reboot unless they are thirty to forty years old and not in syndication?

This is like redoing the Spidey origin movie again. Okay, you have to recast for the Avengers movie, fine we can all pretend it's the same guy. Why do you feel the need to piss over Toby Maguire and Sam Raimi's work?

Actually this probably has way too much in common with dogs marking territory.

Well that sucks, I wasn't the biggest fan of the show past the first 2 seasons but I liked that movie and all it's hockeyness.

I actually was a fan of the movie. I didn't watch the first season cause I was all, really? That as a tv show? Then I did.. and I fell in love with it.

Now it just seems wrong to remake. Unless they do it the way it was originally meant to be.. and they atleast consult Whedon.

Yep. I'd even be happy if they just consulted with Whedon. I mean.. the writer admits to being a fan *actually, her interview makes her sound like she'd be a great fanfic writer :P

I don't care for this news. Not one bit.

I also prefer the movie over the show, every time. But, I'm odd like that.

I loved the original movie. Didn't even try the show till third season, then I fell in love. So yeah.. I'm upset at the idea of rebooting cause of both!

I first saw the show when FX picked it up. First episode I saw was Pangs and then I Will Remember and Angel killed me DED.

Why Cordelia? Why Spike? Honestly!

I agree. I really hope they bring Whedon on somehow.. even as a consultant.

My Philosophy of Feminism (I think that was the course title, anyway) professor* contributed to Buffy and Philosophy, and I went to a talk she gave on the topic. That was the nearest I came to full-on interest in Buffy, but I know there are a lot (LOT) of fangirls out there like you who don't want anything to do with it unless Joss is involved. Way too many people caught up in specific things they loved about the series and/or the movie for a reboot to be a good idea.

* This was an AWESOME class, in large part due to her.

... and now I've spent the time between these two comments reading her blog that I didn't know existed.

And looks like the course was "Feminist Theory," which makes more sense.

... I've barely been drinking tonight! *flail*

Yeah, they say there's a huge audience for it.. but that audience is for Whedon's Buffy.. most of the current audience is pretty upset that they're doing this. To me it just smacks of wanting to ride the Twilight/vampire bandwagon.

There would be no Twilight / vampire bandwagon if it weren't for the Sunnydale crew...

Is Buffy even old enough to warrant a reboot? For some reason it doesn't seem that way.

You know, I may have missed the Buffy boat (saw a bunch of reruns a few years ago) but I have to agree that if Joss is not on board then I'm just not watching it.

I know they got the rights to Buffy through the movie.. but after his tv series of 7 years and his continuation of Angel and then now the comics.. it seems wrong to do it without the consultation of the creator.

Edit: especially since he's STILL working in the universe - Angel and Buffy comics.
